Youtube’s AI dubbing service

What: YouTube will now automatically dub english videos into spanish and Portuguese using an AI-powered service, Aloud.

Aloud originated from Google’s Area 120 incubator, an in-house program that has created more than 50 tools since 2016!

Under the hood, Aloud first transcribes the video, allowing for review and edits by the creator. The transcribed text is then translated into the target language and finally converted into a speech.

Why it matters: 80% of the world does not speak english! This means there is a massive untapped market for content creators (and youtube) with a huge upside by dubbing videos in other languages. But dubbing is expensive and time consuming process, that’s set to be replaced with AI.

Youtube’s dubbing service is completely free and dubs a video in couple of minutes.
