Wendy’s to install AI chatbots in Drive-Thru

What: Soon you’ll be talking to an AI at Wendy’s drive-thru. The fifth largest fast-food company is partnering with Google to introduce an AI chatbot for the drive-thru service.

The AI is designed to understand unique ordering styles, customized phrases and acronyms used by customers, like JBC for Junior Bacon Cheeseburger. The chatbot will be launched in June at a location in Columbus, Ohio.

Why it matters: 80% of the customers prefer the drive-thru option but often see a long waiting time. Wendy’s is hoping to reduce the wait time and cut costs (aka replace humans).

Wendy’s isn’t alone in exploring AI, Popeyes introduced a chatbot called Tori at a Louisiana restaurant and the results were impressive. Speed of service increased by 20%, drink sales by 150% and customer satisfaction by 20%!

What’s next: Wendy's venture into AI-driven drive-thru ordering reflects a broader trend of fast-food chains embracing AI to enhance customer experiences, drive growth and cut costs.

But the writing is on the wall- Corporations will replace workers with AI if it makes economic sense.
