Tech CEOs make a pledge for safer AI

Source: Generated by AI using Adobe

Tech companies are coming together to 'pledge' differentiating between AI and human generated content.

Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, OpenAI, Anthropic and Inflection 'committed' to developing tech to watermark AI-generated content.

Here's how watermarking will help:

  • Trace origin: Embedded watermark will allow you to figure out if the content you're looking at is created by a human or not.

  • Combat Deepfakes: Quickly identify if the content is original or a deep fake.

  • Transparency: Reduce the AI misuse with clear labels.

Why it matters: Just until an year ago, AI could barely generate a realistic image. Now you have hyper-realistic images, videos and content that's almost indistinguishable from human created art.

Gov't regulations have been lagging the rapid advancements in AI for years now. Although this is a step in the right direction, the commitment is 'voluntary' with no penalties or a timeline.

Worldcoin Token

ChatGPT has been all the rage over the last couple of months, but its co-founder, Sam Altman, has another startup that just secured $250 million in funding!

The crypto-currency startup, WorldCoin, is building tech to answer a simple question: “How do you know if you are interacting with a human or an AI-bot?”

Worldcoin is essentially a decentralized open source protocol to create a new identity and financial network.

Here's how it works:

  1. Signup: Users download the "World App" to register for a unique World ID.

  2. Verification: Users physically visit WorldCoin's location to get their "eyeballs" scanned to create a unique id.

  3. Usage: Users can simply authenticate and complete financial transaction in the World App

Bigger picture: WorldCoin insists the biometric data is immediately deleted. Despite the privacy concerns related to handing over your unique eye signature to a private company, more than 2 million people have signed up for the project.

Users are increasingly more than happy to hand over their biometrics, from Clear at the airports to WorldCoin.
