Montana bans TikTok

What: Montana residents will not be able to find TikTok in App stores soon. The state passed a bill prohibiting TikTok from operating in Montana and barring app stores from offering TikTok for downloads.

Penalty: The bill is targeted towards corporations and imposes a fine of $10,000 per violation, per day. But individual users can still use TikTok.

What’s next: The bill, if signed by the Governor, would go into effect in 2024. This sets a legal precedence for other states to follow, and a whole new debate on censorship

If a nation-wide ban on TikTok is imposed, Meta, Google and Snap could see their market value increase by $431 billion, according to Bernstein.

Google scrambling to build AI products

For the first time in more than decade, Google's search business is under a threat!

What happened: Google's lack of AI products is beginning to chip away it's monopoly on the search engine market.

Samsung is considering replacing Google with Microsoft's Bing as the default search engine on its devices!

Why it matters: Although Samsung might be rolling the dice to renegotiate with Google for more favorable terms, the writing is on the wall: Google's position in AI market is weak.

What's next: The existing search agreement with Samsung, valued at $3 billion annually, is significant. However, a similar contract with Apple is worth $20 billion and is due for renewal this year!
