IBM surprises with new chips for AI
Analog AI Chip
IBM unveiled new "Analog AI" chip specialized for AI models.
2 things to know:
Analog chip: Instead of the usual binary system used by digital chips, Analog chips use "Phase-Change Memory" (PCM) that record states between amorphous and crystalline phases.
Efficient: 14x more efficient than current chips resulting in significant savings.
A single Analog AI chip can encode up to 35 million PCM devices per chip, with option to combine multiple chips to run massive AI models like GPT-3
Bigger Picture: Nvidia dominates the chip market for AI with over 90% market share. But running the trained AI-models on your local device still requires a powerful GPU. IBM’s new analog chip design could pave the way for localization of AI models, but we might not see that anytime soon since chip production requires building factories with timeline measured in decades!

Smart Notes by Google
Over the last couple of years, Note-taking apps have gained a cult-like following: Either you’re a notion-guy or you belong to the Obsidian group. And then, there are the Vim-devotees.
With AI boom, every note-taking app is integrating generative AI features but Google’s NotebookLM might be the best implementation so far.
NotebookLM’s AI is grounded in the information within your notes, acting as a personalized AI assistant.
It can help you:
Get a summary: Summarize your notes along with key points.
Ask questions: Brainstorm with your content for a deeper dive
Key point: Unlike ChatGPT, the responses are formed from your data, along with citations for fact-checking.
But, privacy could be a concern with the cloud-based service analyzing and parsing your personal notes.
