Google’s AI discovers 70% faster sorting algorithm
Optimized sorting algorithm by AlphaDev (AI)
Sorting is one the of the most fundamental tasks in computer science and serves as the building block for more complex systems and ideas.
AlphaDev, a new AI system by Google’s AI research unit Deepmind discovered a new sorting algorithm that’s up to 70% faster for shorter sequences and about 1.7% faster for sequences exceeding 250,000 elements!
AlphaDev also discovered a new hashing algorithm that’s 30% faster in the 9-16 bytes range. These improvements are significant because the algorithm are used trillions of times a day! Also, AI discovered these new algorithm on its own without human input!
