Amazon is now a HealthCare Provider too

Amazon-Space, Amazon-Internet, Amazon-Robo-taxis, Amazon-Grocery, now Amazon-Healthcare. What’s next? Amazon Housing?

What: Amazon officially became a Health Care provider in the US after the acquisition of One Medical for $3.9 billion.

For context, One Medical is one of the top health care providers for quick and easy access to Primary Care Physician (PCP). Patients use an app to schedule appointments for primary care, usually available within a day or two, and has a fast-turnaround time for lab work.

Looking at Amazon's Health Care portfolio:

• Amazon Pharmacy, launched after acquisition of Pillback for $1B in 2018

• Amazon Pill Subscription, home delivery of ~80 generic medications for flat $5/mo

• Amazon Healthcare - Telemedicine through One Medical acquisition

Big Picture: Healthcare industry is ripe for disruption. The system is so broken that people prefer taking an Uber to emergency care instead of an ambulance!

But the real question is what happens to your data? Amazon now has microphones in your house (Alexa, iRobot), know what you eat (Grocery/Whole foods), your shopping habits (Prime), what you watch (Prime video) and now gets access to medical information too. Linking up all this information is not going to look pretty.
