Humans are Biased and Generative AI is even worse

Stereotype: 80% of inmates images were with darker skin but they are less than 50% of inmates

Bloomberg released a new report highlighting amplification of human stereotypes and bias in AI. They analyzed over 5,000 images generated by Stable Diffusion, a popular text-to-image AI tool, showcasing how the biases are baked into AI.

Misrepresentation: Stable Diffusion results compared to US demographics

Why it matters: 90% of the internet content could be AI generated within a couple of years and the generative AI market is projected to reach $1.2 trillion by 2032!

Bias is one the core reasons why we need regulations on AI before they are rolled out to public. Some companies like Stable Diffusion are opting for open-source route to let community drive the improvements, while others like Microsoft and Google set their own AI guidelines.
